A WALK THROUGH TERRE-DE-HAUT
Visit Terre-de-Haut at your own pace
For a day in Les Saintes, pick a few stops and save time in town. Here are our tips to organize a walk between village, viewpoint, beach and shops.
Start from the village
The village of Terre-de-Haut brings together colourful houses, small streets, shops, and the seafront. Take the time first to get your bearings around the landing and the bay. It is also an opportunity to taste a tourment d’amour or discover the church Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption.
Before heading further, identify your return location and the time confirmed by your ferry company. Save your shopping and fittings for a moment when you don’t need to watch the clock.
Choose your major stop
Fort Napoléon, for heritage and the view
The fort overlooks the bay and houses a museum. The climb requires more effort than a walk through the town: bring water and check access hours before you go.
A beach, to take your time
Pain de Sucre and Pompierre are among the well-known beaches of Terre-de-Haut. Choose your stop based on the time available and the day's conditions, rather than trying to visit several beaches during a short layover.
These places are presented by the Guadeloupe Islands Tourism Committee, in its Terre-de-Haut guide. Check the information provided there and by the places you plan to visit.
On foot, also think about the return
Une carte donne une distance ; elle ne dit pas toujours l’effort à fournir dans la chaleur ou avec des enfants. Pour préparer votre balade, regardez le relief et le trajet de retour autant que le point d’arrivée.
If your time is limited, stay around the village and choose a single outing. For a longer day, keep a break between visiting a site and the beach. With a stroller or difficulty walking, inquire about exact access and mobility possibilities before committing.
Make room for local shops
The town center also allows you to discover the work of the teams established on the island. At Atelier Karaïbes, discover sewing and T-shirts in two distinct environments, a few minutes' walk from the dock.
If you are looking for a T-shirt in Les Saintes, you can compare cuts and illustrations. For a dress or shirt in madras fabric, trying on and feeling the fabric is part of the choice. Find our addresses in the village and the work done in our workshop.
Our advice for an enjoyable day
Keep three moments: a time in the village, a visit or a beach, then a relaxed return to the dock. The order can change depending on the schedule, the heat, and your desires.
If you want to print a T-shirt on demand, come get information early enough and have the delay confirmed by the team. You can then organize the rest of your outing accordingly, without assuming the piece will be ready just before the boat.
